JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The hotel finance controller plays a vital role in the financial management of a hotel. Responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hotel, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities of a Financial Controller.

The finance controller works closely with the hotel’s management team to ensure that financial goals are met, and financial risks are minimized. They are responsible for analyzing financial data and providing recommendations to improve financial performance and profitability.

Some of the key responsibilities of a hotel finance controller include managing the hotel’s cash flow, preparing financial statements, overseeing accounts payable and receivable, and managing the hotel’s budget. They may also be responsible for developing financial policies and procedures, as well as implementing internal controls to ensure compliance with financial regulations.

QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

• Strong accounting skills are required, as well as a college degree in accounting, business administration, or inventory management.
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities.

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience in a financial management role in a hotel or other hospitality property is a plus.

• Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and tools (e.g., R, Python, Excel).
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and an ability to understand how data impacts model performance.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Ensures that the Department’s activities are aligned with the Corporate Finance Strategy, and that the Hotel Actions have been implemented where appropriate.
• Assists in the preparation and updates of Finance and Information Systems Departmental Operations Manuals.
• Ensures that the hotel is adhering to all Company/Hotel Finance Policies and Procedures.
• Ensures that government-stipulated employee and tax legislations are strictly followed and implemented.
• Ensures that an organised, up-to-date filing system is maintained for all pertinent financial records.
• Responsible for ensuring that all Corporate, Regional, hotel and governmental reports are compiled accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
• Monitors and ensures that hotel licences are renewed on time.
• Administers and renews insurance policies.
• Assists with the preparation of the annual Finance Business Plan ensuring Divisional Objectives fully address business objectives of the hotel and needs of employees.
• Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Counsel, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition.
• Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
• Plan and publish timely monthly financial statements.
• Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
• Research technical accounting issues for compliance.
• Support month-end and year-end close process.
• Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
• Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
• Produce and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

Requirements:

• Proven working experience as a Cost / Assistant Financial Controller.
• Possess at least Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
• CPA or CMA preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.
• Good with creating financial statements.
• Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
• Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.

Job Description:

• Follow procedures to processing new business/plan application, enter detail and accurate information, and create account accordingly in the company Software Tools
• To perform and ensure the risks are accessed in accordance with the company guidelines and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements, and determine whether to accept, modify or decline the application.
• Process all necessary Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD)
• Evaluate all products by assessing the risks according to company guidelines and regulations.
• To investigate all information and ensures timely escalation of alerts to the appropriate parties for further review.
• Liaise with Regulatory Compliance Officer for advice and other business units for information where required.
• Advise clients on the progress of their applications/requests.
• Follow up the request on rider added from existing clients.

• Apply or adapt knowledge (obtained from training) to the task at hand.
• Assist general inquiries from client or broker via phone or written in a professional and courteous manner.

Job Requirements:

• Candidate must possess at least a Degree/Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Admin or a related field qualifications.
• Experience candidate must have at least 2-3 years relevant hands-on experience in client services, insurance industry, banking and financial institution.
• With experience specialize in Anti-Money Laundering, Customer Due Diligence and Know Your Customer (AML/CDD/KYC) will be added advantage.
• Proficiency in MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Excellent command of written and spoken in English and Mandarin (華語). We are seeking candidates proficient in Mandarin to effectively communicate with Mandarin-speaking clients.
• Sense of responsibility and patience.
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills, data literacy, and attention to detail.
